Tour Group One: November 11-18, 2018
Both Bartók’s String Quartet No. 4 and Dvořák’s Piano Trio in F Minor were performed at Marlboro in 2016 with Soovin Kim as the senior participant. These works go on tour with that summer’s participants and a program rounded out by Dvořák’s Miniatures, Op. 75a.
National Tour: March 2-10, 2019
After a successful East Coast tour in 2018, this program returns for performance on the National Tour circuit. It includes Boccherini’s delightful String Quintet in E Major, G. 275, with its famous minuet and plenty of opportunities for ornamentation, alongside two great works that received thrilling performances at Marlboro a couple of summers ago: Bartók’s String Quartet No. 2 and Ravel’s Piano Trio in A Minor.
Tour Group Two: March 16-24, 2019
Purcell’s Chacony in G Minor, Z. 730, serves as the inspiration for the third movement of Britten’s luminous second string quartet, which was written to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Purcell’s death. This work, along with Vaughan Williams’s pastoral song cycle Along the Field, forms the basis of this tour, which also includes Dvořák’s inimitably joyous string sextet, a perennial Marlboro favorite.
Tour Group Three: May 5-12, 2019
The final program of the season begins with Schubert’s unfinished Quartettsatz, D 703, followed by Bartók’s String Quartet No. 5. Concluding the program is Brahms’s Piano Quartet in G Minor, Op. 25.
