Business Manager – Marlboro Music
Marlboro, Vermont | Full-Time | On-Site
For 74 years, Marlboro Music has been a world-renowned center for advanced chamber music study and performance. Each summer, under the artistic direction of pianists Mitsuko Uchida and Jonathan Biss, leading professional and emerging musicians gather in Marlboro, Vermont, to rehearse and collaborate in a retreat-like setting. With its recent acquisition of the former Marlboro College campus, Marlboro now supports mission-aligned programming year-round, with a focus on the arts and education.
We seek a Business Manager to join our small, collaborative team and help oversee the financial and operational well-being of the organization. Reporting to the Managing Director, this full-time, on-site role includes oversight of daily business functions, financial management, and strategic partnership in fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Manage the annual operating budget and financial reporting (interim, year-end, and long-term)
- Oversee the Philadelphia-based Financial Director who handles all basic financial transactions and accounting.
- Oversee HR functions including payroll, insurance, and retirement plans.
- Administer contracts with vendors, food services, and off-season tenants.
- Coordinate with auditors, attorneys, and the Board Treasurer as needed.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Collaborate on capital budgets, maintenance planning, and facility projects.
- Support the Operations team with the financial elements of campus rentals.
Fundraising Finance Partnership
- Work with the Advancement Director to align budgets with fundraising goals.
- Prepare financial reports on donor revenue, grant performance, and ROI.
- Track and allocate restricted/unrestricted funds accurately.
- Support grant proposals with cost projections and budget narratives.
- Facilitate collaboration between finance and development teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field (CPA or graduate degree preferred).
- Experience in nonprofit financial management; QuickBooks and MS Office proficiency required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle sensitive information, and manage multiple priorities.
- Appreciation for classical music is highly desirable.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience. Includes excellent benefits, summer meals on campus and concert access.
