Auditions

Auditions for Marlboro Music are typically held in New York City and are scheduled as positions become available, usually every-other year for string instruments, every 2-3 years for wind instruments, and annually for voice. Piano applications are accepted on a rolling basis—please see below for application requirements and information.

FLUTE

Application Requirements:Application Form plus preliminary videos of three works (or substantial movements of works) from contrasting periods for flute and piano OR solo flute (please no concerti, chamber music, or works for alto flute or piccolo, etc.). Works for flute and piano should be recorded with a pianist.

Audition Repertoire:

• Mozart D major Quartet, K.285 [applicants will play along with a trio of string players at the audition]

• Debussy Syrinx PLUS One unaccompanied piece for flute of 10 minutes or less demonstrating an understanding of contemporary style and technique. Representative examples are listed below, or applicants may select a different work of their choice.

Pianists are invited to audition on the basis of a preliminary recording, and are encouraged to send their materials as soon as they are available.
